To what extent did Reconstruction bring the Southern Negro the equality and freedom that slavery had denied them?
lol.... It didn't really do to much for quality of life. Slaves went from plantations to sharecropping... they basically were still slaves, just not by name. So, to answer your initial question, it wasn't a great extent at all. But if you need 3 reasons, I suggest writing about the RIGHT to own land (even though white people made that difficult) the RIGHT to vote (even though the KKK would threaten to lynch any would-be-voters) and maybe for the 3rd paragraph, you can just talk about the IDEA of freedom. Reconstruction left former slaves heavily opressed, but they still were happy to be, technically, by most definitions, on paper, free. We're still feeling the negative effects of Reconstruction today. It's a reconstruction repurcussion, if you will.
