An author will use a claim to back up support. An author will use support to back up a claim. An author will remove a
claim if the support is strong. An author will remove support if the claim is strong.

An author will use a support to back up a claim,
because if you think about it, lets say that you're talking to a friend, and you say, "I wore a brown tank top yesterday" and your friend says " well, how do I know that?"
You could then provide evidence ( support ) to help back up your claim.
