Step 1: m∠m + m∠n + m∠o = 180 degrees (sum of angles of a triangle) Step 2: m∠p − m∠o = 90 degrees (alternate interior angles) Step 3: Therefore, m∠m + m∠n + m∠o = m∠o + m∠p Step 4: So, m∠m + m∠n = m∠p In which step did the student first make a mistake and how can it be corrected? Step 1; it should be m∠m + m∠n + m∠o = 90 degrees (corresponding angles) Step 1; it should be m∠m + m∠n + m∠o = 90 degrees (adjacent angles) Step 2; it should be m∠o + m∠p = 180 degrees (alternate exterior angles) Step 2; it should be m∠o + m∠p = 180 degrees (supplementary angles)

@Ms-Brains

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Whoa. I've never worked on problems like these

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know anyone smart? lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi @pooja195

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Yes! xD I'll tag them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok ;)

MsBrains (ms-brains):

@Directrix @Gabylovesyou Maybe one of you two could help out Jeannie.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sleepyjess @StudyGurl14

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Oh! Sorry. I tagged those guys, but I'm not sure when they will be on. Are you taking a quiz?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea kinda like that its all right ill just tag and tag until someone comes lol XD

MsBrains (ms-brains):

If you are in k12, I might be able to help you.. What's the name of the math course you are taking?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im in flvs :'(

MsBrains (ms-brains):

Awh man. :'( I'm sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its allright ;D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@phi can you help me?

OpenStudy (phi):

do you know a straight line is 180 degrees?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (phi):

do you see angle O and angle P ? do they make a line ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes they do so both angles would equal 180 degrees right?

OpenStudy (phi):

in other words, if you faced toward B and then turn to face point A you would have turned angle O. then turn the amount of angle P. you would be looking backwards. that is 180 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait what does the turn mean?

OpenStudy (phi):

an angle is how much you turn. for example if you look toward point A, and turn 180 degree you would be facing in the other direction.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (phi):

In this problem, if you look at point B and turn to look at point A in the picture, you turned "angle O". if you then turn the amount angle P, you would be looking in the opposite direction from point B anyway, we say angle O + angle P= 180 degrees

OpenStudy (phi):

when two angles add up to 180 we call the supplementary angles (I guess you have to memorize that)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i guess it would be d

OpenStudy (phi):

the idea is <O + < P = 180 because they are supplementary (add up to a line) line 2 in the proof does not say that, it says something that looks wrong. I would choose d) as the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thx! i got it right!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
