http://imgur.com/DBcN0xQ Could use s bit of help on this aswell.. Likely involves Synthetic division, but im confused by the variable K
@Zale101 @pooja195
k is just 'some number' .. when you get to your remainder, what value of k makes it go to zero?
and no need for synthetic really ... what ever zeros the bottom, will zero the top if they are factors
ah i see, let me go through it XD i forgot to add the zero in my synthetic division.
if x=2, then x-2=0 .. what is the top when x=2? what value of k makes it all equal to zero?
2^5 +2^3k -6(2) +2 = 0
2(2)^4 + 2^3k-6(2)+2 = 0 right?
yep
16 +4k -6+1=0 11 +4k =0
4k=-111 k=-11/4 so then then k = -11/4?
wait wouldnt it be 36+8k-12+2=0?
got a little to happy with the 1 key :) but yeah
same same ... i divided off 2 to start with ...
Oh i see, *Facepalm*
2^5 = 32 ... not 36
Oh derp, fail in math there.
heheh. but yeah, just keep in mind that in order to be a factor, then when it goes to zero ... anything times 0 = 0 so to make it a factor of the other one ... just see what zeros it out
so then my answer would be K = -11/4, right?
seems fair to me
thank you very much :)
your welcome :)
i appreciat ethe help, alot of ppl pass up these more difficult problems XD and sometimes im stuck here like wth do i do :D
