If a customer receives a telephone bill in the amount of $355 and the telephone company offers a 3 percent cash discount if the bill is paid before January 1st, what is the amount of the bill? $344.35 $248.50 $354.35 $106.50

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Koikkara

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@arano1 Please give a try, and i will help you correct it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it past January 1st yet?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would $248.50 be my answer?

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@arano1 it's a wrong answer, show your calculations please !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find the percent of the discount take the original amount and multiply it by the percentage of the discount. ie. 355 x 0.03 = ? <-- that number will be the amount that will be discounted ( call it x) then take x and subtract that from the original amount, original amount - x or 355 -x that will give you the final amount after the discout

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Koikkara why are you giving him such a hard time dude?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

355 - .3% = 354. so would it be c?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

remember that which percentages it is over 100. so 40% would be 0.4 99% would be 0.99, 1% would be 0.01

OpenStudy (koikkara):

Yes @arano1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ty

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@redbeardd You made him easy to copy-paste for Homework.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im a her -_-

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is not c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can't just subtract 0.03 you multiply that into the original amount to get the discount. That number you get will be 3% or 355, then take that number and subtract it from the original to get the final cost. 354 is wrong because $1 is not 3 percent of 355

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Koikkara thats arguable, but whatever the case is its better than you telling her she has the right answer when its wrong?

OpenStudy (koikkara):

@redbeardd Ref: http://www.jiskha.com/display.cgi?id=1410198495 , Also proove where i went wrong...And Please don't argue !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Koikkara She said that her answer was c, and you said yes.
