What are the three degrees of burns? How is each characterized?

First Degree: redness on burned area, slight pain. No need for medical treatment. Second Degree: Blistering, redness, and pain. Medical treatment not necessarily required, but could be sought if the pain worsens. Third Degree: Charring, blistering, and extreme pain. Medical attention required.
