What is the difference between linear pairs and supplementary angles?

OpenStudy (mathmate):

|dw:1446732344425:dw| Two angles that are adjacent AND supplementary form a linear pair. Therefore two angles that are supplementary need not be a linear pair. See the above examples, a and b form a linear pair, c and d are supplementary, but do NOT form a linear pair.
