when two nitrogen atoms bond they share three pairs of valence electrons why does this happen sharing allows nitrogen to get rid of excess elections by sharing the electrons each atom ends up with an octet nitrogen atoms only bond yo other nitrogen atoms all covalent bonds involve the sharing of 3 pairs of electrons
