For problems in R3 with boundary constraints, why is the gradient of the boundary parallel to the gradient of the function? If you have a plane intersecting a cone, you get a parabola which has a minimum but according to this theorem there is supposed to be none (because the gradient of the plane is to the right/left and the gradient of the cone is at an angle?) Please help!
