The colonies were the american colonies that broke apart from english rule during the revolutionary war. What this is asking is for you to write a metaphorical letter to king george asking for either freedom or control.

Something like;

"Dear king george, with all of your wisdom I believe you truly know that keeping all of these colonies overseas under your control is very difficult, even for you. There will be riots and revolts. Your best bet is just giving them freedom on their own accord."
