can someone please help me with my algebra homework? i do online school and i have no idea how to do this. it makes me so upset. could someone demonstrate how to do these? i really need help... 4x + y = 5 x - y = 1 x + 4y = 8 5x + y = 2 7x + 3y = -21

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to find the x and y intercepts of the equation. i have no idea how to do that :(

OpenStudy (kohai):

Okay, firstly, do you know what an intercept is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i dont :( i dont understand it at all

OpenStudy (kohai):

|dw:1446746671602:dw| An intercept is where the line crosses the axis

OpenStudy (kohai):

So this one has one y-intercept and two x-intercepts right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok that makes sense. and oh it has 2?

OpenStudy (kohai):

Yeah because on the x-axis it crosses over twice

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh i think i understand that
