OpenStudy (amenah8):

how to simplify (can I factor?): x^2-5x+4=0

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

The sum of 2 numbers is -5 ? and the result of multiplying them is 4 -4 * -1 so (x - 4) * ( x - 1) to check , multiply -1 * x = -x , -4 * x = -4x sum them = -5x ( as the middle )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I factored and got x=4,1

OpenStudy (amenah8):

so: (x-4)(x-1) is the factored form?

OpenStudy (amenah8):

thank you that makes sense!!

OpenStudy (trojanpoem):

The factored form is (x-4)(x-1), the roots of the equation is x = 1, x = 4 .
