Theft, e.g. shoplifting or theft from workplace. Reasons range from simple dishonesty, wanting / needing something they can't afford, taking to sell on for profit, cleptomania Pilferage is another word for stealing something. And people do because either they want to object or feel they will not get caught taking it,.
