A child is to receive a dose of 0.5 teaspoon of cough medicine every 8 hours. If the bottle contains 48 doses, how many days will the medicine last?

OpenStudy (maddy1251):

There are 24 hours in 1 day. The child can take it ever 8 hours. So that is 3 doses a day. RIght? Because 8 x 3 = 24.

OpenStudy (maddy1251):

In a day, they can take 3 doses, so that's 0.5 x 3 = 1.5, one and one-half doses per day.

OpenStudy (maddy1251):

It says there are 48 doses within a bottle.

OpenStudy (maddy1251):

So I would take the 48 doses and my 1.5 doses per day and figure out how long that truly will last.

OpenStudy (maddy1251):

I think that taking 48 and dividing by 1.5 is the best way to do this. So 48 divided by 1.5 = 32, which is almost a month. Your answer is 32 days.
