Alright, let's start off with defining things first. I've attached a periodic table for your reference. A group is a column of elements on the periodic table. There is a total of 18 groups (except for the f-block, the separated portion underneath the periodic table, which is not numbered.) Next we define what are valence electrons. Valence electrons are the number of electrons on the OUTERMOST shell of the atom.
