WILL MEDAL & FAN! need help finding domain of equation: { 50x if 0≤x≤1 y= { 50+85x if 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the { are supposed to be all connected...

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

Look at the peace of which the function is composed. Is the 1st peace and the 2nd peace equivalent to each other at x=1? Is the 2nd peace and the 3rd peace equivalent to each other at x=4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think yes.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

50•1 \(\ne\) 50 + 85•1 (the left side is too small to be equivalent to the right side) 50 + 85•4 \(\ne\) 305 + 60•4 (the right side is even and the right side is not, so the sides are not equivalent)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is 50 + 85•4 ≠ 305 + 60•4 the domain?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont get how to understand which is the domain.. @SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The domain is a set that consists of real numbers that would give a defined output for the function.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

(NOTE: They are presuming a continuous function, I suppose)

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

However, at x=1 and x=4, the function seems to lose discountinuity.
