Figure a: suggests that the rays bend once, when they are in the middle of the lens. This is ridicules.

Rays bend when they cross between media of different refractive index.

Figure b is also ridiculous, with the rays bending at the incident surface of the lens, but Not as it re-emerges in to air. The angle (relative to the normal) should be the same at both boundaries.
