An arithmetic sequence has the terms a6=53 and a8=61 A. What is the value of d? Whats the value of a1? B. What is the explicit formula? Thanks so much and could you maybe explain? :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Nnesha could you maybe possibly help? :3

Nnesha (nnesha):

you! ready ??

Nnesha (nnesha):

this is the formula for arithmetic sequence \[\huge\rm a_n = a_1 +(n-1)d\] n= number of the terms we need a_1 = first term d= common difference

Nnesha (nnesha):

a_6 = 6th term =53 a_8 = 8th term = 61 so \[\rm when~~n=6~~~,a_n=a_6 =53\] i'm going to replace n with 6 and a_6 with 53 \[\huge\rm a_\color{reD}{n} = a_1 +(\color{red}{n}-1)d\]\[\large\rm a_\color{reD}{6} = a_1 +(\color{red}{6}-1)d\]\[\large\rm \color{reD}{53} = a_1 +(\color{red}{5})d\] ^^^first equation

Nnesha (nnesha):

now write 2nd equation when a_8 = 61 and then subtract both e quations

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahh im sorry! i didn't know you came back on!! thanks so much tho !! :D

Nnesha (nnesha):

it's okay can you write 2nd equation give it a try
