How do you feel about music that is more reliant on sonic manipulation/effects rather than more traditional arrangements? I feel like a song like this, while its use of effects and manipulations are incredible it wouldn't work out so well with an acoustic guitar, for example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdHS1sbV5xw

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

I felt like that whole song was just a giant acid trip. Do yourself a favor and look at emulating songs that people have put some real effort into. Do something that requires more than just a guy playing with the sounds on his computer. There's very little skill in that. I suppose you could try to do an arrangement of that with real instruments but the melodies and harmonies are too vague to construct a real piece of music.

All of the sounds you hear in that song are made with a guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. No computers like that back in 1991. i suggest you look into how My Bloody Valentine record this album, and also watch this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsFZCRuA4Qs

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

That's fair. But the rest of my comment still stands. It's certainly not a sophisticated piece of music.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's one of the most influential and groundbreaking albums of all time, but ok. What's your idea of "sophisticated" music?

OpenStudy (tanner23456):

I hardly consider that to be accurate. My Bloody Valentine isn't even that well known comparatively. As far as sophisticated music I would say the criteria is relative. From genre to genre you can only get so "sophisticated" or complex, if you will. In my own personal library I enjoy things from Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach to things at the other end of the spectrum like AFI, Alkaline Trio, and Tiger Army. I just enjoy the expressions and feelings of other great artists fashioned with skill, control, and complexity into something inspiring and enlightening to my ears. I realize that you may find it with this music, but I find that hard to understand from my perspective and musical background.
