OpenStudy (hhopke):

Solve these two rational equations. MEDAL+FAN!

OpenStudy (hhopke):

\[\frac{ 2 }{ x+12 }=\frac{ 8 }{ x-13 }\] and \[12=10+\frac{ 5 }{ x+8 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[2(x-13)=8(x+12)\\ -2=\frac{5}{x+8}\] are two good starts

OpenStudy (hhopke):

2(x-13)=8(x+12) 2x-26=8x+96 -26=6x+96 -122=6x -61/3=x

OpenStudy (hhopke):

-2(x+8)=5 -2x-16=5 -16=5+2x -21=2x -21/2=x

OpenStudy (hhopke):

The first one was right, the second was wrong. :(

OpenStudy (hhopke):

\[12=10+\frac{ 5 }{ x+8 }\]

OpenStudy (hhopke):

\[-2=\frac{ 5 }{ x+8 }\]

OpenStudy (hhopke):

\[-2*(x+8)=5\] \[(x+8)=\frac{ 5 }{ -2 }\]

OpenStudy (hhopke):

\[x=\frac{ 5 }{ -2 }-8\] \[x=\frac{5}{-2}-\frac{-16}{-2}\] \[x=\frac{21}{-2}\]
