HELP! Two factory plants are making TV panels. Yesterday, Plant A produced 3 times as many panels as Plant B. Three percent of the panels from Plant A and 2% of the panels from Plant B were defective. How many panels did Plant B produce, if the two plants together produced 1210 defective panels?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

ick i hate word problems don't you ?

OpenStudy (misty1212):

we need some sort of variable lets pick \(x\) for the number of panels plant B produced, since that is what you are supposed to find

OpenStudy (misty1212):

2% of them are defective, and 2% of \(x\) is \(0.02x\)

OpenStudy (misty1212):

plant A produced 3 times as many, or \(3x\) and 3% of those are defective so \[0.03\times 3x\] are

OpenStudy (misty1212):

the total is 1210 solve \[0.02x+.03\times 3x=1210\]
