OpenStudy (celinegirl):

Please help! (I will give medal) 1. What is the function of a wave? 2. What is the difference between a transverse and a longitudinal

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A wave function in quantum mechanics describes the quantum state of an isolated system of one or more particles. There is one wave function containing all the information about the entire system, not a separate wave function for each particle in the system. Its interpretation is that of a probability amplitude.

Transverse waves travel well in solids, but not in fluids like liquid or gas. Longitudinal waves include sound waves and seismic P waves. They travel through all states of matter because their medium particles move parallel to the direction of the wave.
