The difference between eight times a number and three is equal to negative nineteen. What is the number?

Hello. What have you done so far?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well this one is a doozie. You have to multiply by a negative to get this answer. 8 * -2 is -16. So when you subtract from a negative, you're adding what you're subtracting. So -16 - 3 is -19. The answer is -2.
