Which of the following is the correct graph of the solution to the inequality −8 greater than or equal to −5x + 2 > −38? a. number line with an open dot at 2 with shading to the left and another open dot at 8 with shading to the right. b. number line with an open dot at 8 and at 2 with shading in between. c. number line with a closed dot on 2 and an open dot on 8 and shading in between. d. number line with closed dots at 2 and 8 with shading between the 2 and the 8. if you can help me please help and i give out medals!!

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

are you able to solve `-5x + 2 = -38` for x ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=8

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

what steps did you take to get that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I did -5x + 2 = -38

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm sorry I'm confused

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

hopefully you subtracted 2 from both sides? and then divided both sides by -5 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh i see what you mean. You wanted me to list my steps.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

those same steps will apply to solving `−5x + 2 > −38`

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the only difference is that when you divide both sides by a negative number, the inequality will flip

OpenStudy (anonymous):

will that make th answer b

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

when you solved `−5x + 2 > −38` what did you get ?
