Coordinate Plane I HELP PLEASE
Slope-intercept is the y = m*x+ b form m= slope = rise/run b=y axis intercept value
okay..
for the red line would it be 0/4 for rise/run?
no, that would be a hporizontal line, rise zero and run 4
and i dont know why b is
yes thats what i said no?
To figure the slope m, look for 2 points that are on the line, for the red (0, -1) and (1,0) look good the slope is difference in y values over difference in x values, m = (0 - -1)/(1-0) = 1/1 = 1
have to be careful because the scale is different on the vertical axis, 2 per box instead of 1 like on the x
oh okay :/
im still confused
sorry, i made a small error, (1,0) not on red line, should be (1,1) slope is then m = (1 - -1)/1 = 2 y-axis intercept b is at -1 put together slope intercept form y=m*x+b y=2x-1
oh ok
The blue line will have a negative slope, it slants down moving left to right do the same thing, use 2 points on the line and calculate slope m, the y-intercept is at b=2 put together y=mx+b same way
uh
2 points that are easy to read off the picture on the blue line are (0,2) and (2,0) the slope m=(0-2)/(2-0) = -2/2 = -1
for every 1 unit you move right, you move 1 unit down (-1) slope -1
i need to run, this is what you need for the last 2 (3rd is same as first 2) perpendicular slope is the negative reciprical, (#4 perpendicular to blue line take blue lines slope m and flip it upside down and change the sign on it) so blue is slope -1, or -1/1, the perpendicular slope is then +1/1 or +1 parallel means same slope for both lines given a point and a slope you find, put together th epoint - slope form (y - y1) = m*(x-x1) where (x1 , y1) is the given point, and m is th eslope you find just rearrange that to the y=mx+b sform after you put the values in
