1. What were the goals of Jim Crow Laws? * To get Jim Crow elected to Congress. Take away voting rights of African Americans and to racially segregate the South. To guarantee the right of African Americans to run for political office. 2. Identify the best description of grandfather clauses. * Laws passed which only allowed grandfathers (men aged 55 or older) to vote or run for public office. Clauses which southern states included in their legislation which allowed a person to vote as long as his ancestors had voted prior to 1866. Tests which required potential voters to pass a written exam prior to being allowed to vote.

To warn Americans about the dangers of political corruption, an inadequate monetary supply, and an unresponsive government. 5. What happened to the Populist Party by the early 1900's? * The party lost its appeal following the defeat of William Jennings Bryan in the 1896 presidential election. William Jennings Bryan shifted his support to the Republican party. The Populist party joined with the Know-Nothing party to challenge for the election of 1912.
