WILL AWARD FAN AND MEDAL IF ANSWERED IMMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!!!! Solve the Inequality. 12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12 < y (8-y) Simplify: 12 < 8y - y^2 0 < -y^2 + 8y - 12 0 < y^2 - 8y + 12 0 < (y - 6) (y - 2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, the answer is..?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So (y - 6) and (y - 2) both have to be greater than 0 y > 6, y > 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So if they're both grater than 0 that leaves out answer choice A.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ANSWER CHOICES; A. 0 B.1 C.2 D. 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah okay if it's multiple choice it's much easier. Simply substitute each possible solution into the inequality: 12<y(8-y) 12<0(8-0) 12<0(8) 12<0 - obviously not true 12<y(8-y) 12<1(8-1) 12<1(7) 12<7 - obviously not true 12<y(8-y) 12<2(8-2) 12<2(6) 12<12 - obviously not true 12<y(8-y) 12<3(8-3) 12<3(5) 12<15 - true

(Also, as I said, y must be greater than 6 and 2, and as only D is greater than 2, it must be D)

Thank you so much!!

No problem :)
