OpenStudy (davidusa):

Why can some animals only eat plants or animals? Ex: cows are herbivores- they never eat animals unless you force it down their throats.

OpenStudy (nethercreep333):

i guess becuz they dont have the right digestive system for it.

OpenStudy (mattyboyy):

I'd like to think so too^

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it is because that is not their nature to do it, Ex. Cows and Berbivores dont have the physical standards to obtain those animals, cows dont have the speed of lions nor do they have the teeth of any carnivores.

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

Yea, it is because of how theird stomach's digest. For example a cow has 4 stomachs if I remember correctly, and they digest their food differently, they can eat their food all over again when they digest! :)

OpenStudy (davidusa):

Ok I am confused now... but nightlemon's explanation sounds more reasonable to me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But u might say that humans have the same teeth as cows, yes, humans do, but thats because humans don't need to hunt, they adapted their bodys to what is now herbivore like but can still eat meats

OpenStudy (nethercreep333):

like panda bears eat bamboo becuz they digest it better

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

it is both the structures of the teeth and the digestive system, is what I will say.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if there were no longer any plants left, the herbivores would adapt to eating meat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but thats a long time

OpenStudy (nethercreep333):

everyone medal someone randomly XD all the explanations are good

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

true true

OpenStudy (davidusa):

@NightLemon But why do lions eat only animals? They have the capability to "catch" plants, so why not eat it?

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

because they are use to eating animals.

OpenStudy (davidusa):

Is it because animals provide more food and energy, so those lions a long time ago who ate plants starved and were removed from the gene pool from natural selection?

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

if all animals were gone in their adaptation, they would adapt to plants.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lions can eat plants, but that is not their "favorate" food, if the world ran out of meat, they would adapt to eating plants as well

OpenStudy (mattyboyy):

No I believe that would be called predatorial instinct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

u would not want to eat something you dont like, but doesnt mean u cant eat it

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

true

OpenStudy (davidusa):

Lol it's impossible for the world to run out of meat if lions exist...

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

not imposible i tell u

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, but the world is big, they cant be hunting their own kind forever

OpenStudy (davidusa):

If you put a hunk of meat in front of a starving cow it wouldn't eat it

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

no it wouldnt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, it woundnt, thats why it needs to adapt

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and adaptation occurs in hundreds and thousands of years

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just like how we humans had furrs because of the cold weathers, and now we dont have furrs because we got things called clothes

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

yup, that is why wolfs adapted into freindly dogs.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

well some

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

:)

OpenStudy (davidusa):

That makes sense, thanks everyone!

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

np!

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

\(\Huge\cal\rlap{\color{red}{NO~PROBLEM!}}{\color{blue}{\;NO~PROBLEM!}}\)

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

:)

OpenStudy (davidusa):

@Whitemonsterbunny17 @Kainui @Mehek14 Can you help me give a medal to someone who answered I want to give to all of them but I can only give one medal! :( @AlexandervonHumboldt2

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

lol its alright David all I wanted to do is help, if nobody gives me a medal I don't mind. :)

OpenStudy (davidusa):

Thanks mark

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

np. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its k, i got u mark :)

OpenStudy (mtepecz):

Did someone mention enzymes?

OpenStudy (markchernioglo):

@NightLemon thank you very much I appreciate it. :)
