Square RSTU is shown below with a line AB drawn through its center. If the square is dilated using a scale factor of one over four and a line is drawn through the center of the new dilated figure, what relationship will that line have with line AB in the drawing below? http://prntscr.com/91ss3j

are there choices or it is free-response question?

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Short response, technically. No choices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think that line A'B' (new line) will be parallel to AB.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

I figured that too from previous questions of the same nature. Would you also agree that dilating by the factor of 1/4 would increase the area of the square? I thought it would decrease, but someone else said increase...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

decrease. How can it increase?! But the area will be (1/4)^2 times smaller, becasue each side decreases in 4 times

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):

Okay. I thought an increase sounded wrong lol Thanks for you continued help tonight.

OpenStudy (leahhhmorgannn):
