y = -6x Help me make this into a word problem?? Fan and medal
what do you need to do with y=-6x?
Make it into a word problem that makes sense
can you read it outloud?
I'm assuming the OP means something along the lines of "The contractors are trying to make a line that .... blah blah blah"?
Uh..
I just need it made into a word problem
How about something like this: x = number of hours that have elapsed y = depth of a submarine (y = 0 is at the sea level surface, negative y values represent when the submarine is below the water line) If a submarine dives straight down at a rate of 6 mph, then after x hours, the depth of the submarine would be `y = -6x` miles I'm using the idea that Distance = Rate * Time "rate" is another term for "speed"
Oh thank you! I didn't know where on earth to start! Thank you so so so so so so much!
Then you can ask questions like a) what is the depth of the submarine after 3 hours? (plug in x = 3 to find out) b) how many hours go by when the sub is 18 miles below the water level? (replace y with -18 and isolate x)
you're welcome
