first draw a free body diagram showing the forces acting on the object. then youll see that there are three forces acting on the object (two 5N forces and the weight of the object) . Since the object is at rest you can find the weight of the object from the other known forces. Now when one rope is cut, there will be only two forces acting on the object wich is the tension of the rope and the weight of the object. so for the object to be at rest, those two forces have to be equal in size and opposite in the direction
