TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

If I told you that if the devs needed to do one simple thing, and the moderators would have a much easier time moderating, would you believe me? :)

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

You better ;p

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

The suggesstion is to remove the 'Delete' feature :D From both posts, and the chats.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Of course, only moderators will be able to delete :D

pooja195 (pooja195):

It would be really annoying not being able to delete chat messages and posts comments.... 1) On posts say you were explaining something to someone and you made a mistake with your calculations....and you wanted to delete the comment so you can put up a better comment without confusing the asker but there was no delete feature? 2) What if you accidently copy and pasted the wrong link to something in chat and wanted to delete it and put up a proper link so people can come to see your question? 3) How would this feature benefits the COMMUNITY of OS and not just the mods?

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

People would just need to make more posts, and explicitly correct themselves. But the PROS outwiegh the CONS :D You see, if users aren't allowed to delete, moderators can get the whole picture without have to scrummage through logs to see what was deleted. Same with the chat. :D

pooja195 (pooja195):

Ok but how will this benefit the COMMUNITY? Do you think not being able to delete anything will make the community happy? You need to keep in mind we are human and we make mistakes, lots of them.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

They can still delete messages recieved ;p

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

But you see, when people report, they want justice. But if moderators don't know what happened, they cannot serve justice. xD

pooja195 (pooja195):

But is that the only thing? Most of the mistakes are made in public.. Like on posts and in the chats. They can serve justice by looking at the mod log. Mods can see deleted chat messages they can see comments from posts that are being deleted.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

.-.

pooja195 (pooja195):

Our priority is the community....if there is no community how will there me mods? If theres no mods how will there be admins? If theres no admins who will run the site? Get where i'm going? Point is if users cant be able to delete the chat/posts comments they won't like how things are and might leave.

OpenStudy (ddos_dragon):

Pooja, is very right. 6 Times out of 10 I will delete the post I made, as either I did not explain something well enough or I did it wrong :P. On the other hand, it is very annoying to search through the logs, but that is apart of being a mod. You are weighing out five minutes or the grades of those who do not await confirmation.

OpenStudy (ddos_dragon):

What we could do, is add "Mod View" ™ Where, moderators can see all the deleted posts if the mods activate it! Or deleted posts are always visible to the mods.

OpenStudy (ddos_dragon):

I just deleted two variants of the posts I just made, to rephrase them. :3

Nnesha (nnesha):

I can't believe this.

Nnesha (nnesha):

i don't see any pros.

OpenStudy (ddos_dragon):

The mods saving... about five minutes.

OpenStudy (ddos_dragon):

That is the only pro I see and that is a pathetic excuse for a pro.

Nnesha (nnesha):

Then they should work on mod tools.

OpenStudy (ddos_dragon):

All the devs need to do is add Mod View ™, and the problem TSO proposed will... vanish! Whilst also keeping the community happy.

Nnesha (nnesha):

*keeping the community happy* how ??

OpenStudy (ddos_dragon):

Scroll up; read.

Nnesha (nnesha):

It would be annoying

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

;-;

pooja195 (pooja195):

Dont cry baby tso :)

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

annoying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The devs need to do one simple thing and the entire site would be better: Let me fix the site :P

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Tso, mods. are capable of seeing the messages that people delete. Besides, it is the very act of deleting posts that gives moderators a large portion of power. They have the ability to eradicate posts filled with disrespect and negligence of the rules, which is a form of discipline in itself. And Jay, if you "fix" the site, I trust that it would be lightning fast and super efficient...but we would probably have to put a seizure warning on the site. :P

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

@Jamierox4ev3r I said that normal users can't delete, but mods can :P

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"And Jay, if you "fix" the site, I trust that it would be lightning fast and super efficient...but we would probably have to put a seizure warning on the site. :P" Nahhhhhh i wouldn't do that... I would certainly put a code for it though! LMBO

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and tso no you didnt, you just implyed it @TheSmartOne
