I really need help with Linear algebra vector addition and subtraction

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@amistre64

OpenStudy (amistre64):

im u and v are in standard postion (start at 0) and therefore the tip is the other end

OpenStudy (amistre64):

how do we find midpoints?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

(u+v)/2 (u+u+v)/2

OpenStudy (amistre64):

subtract the tail to get it to 0 (2u+v)/2 - (u+v)/2 (2u+v-v-u)/2 u/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry my internet died on me

OpenStudy (amistre64):

does the general approach there make sense?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uh r u first trying to solve for the head cordinates of W or tail?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

tail is the midpoint of u and v head is the other one

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the generalization lets us work the process without having to do the numbers till the end

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay so to find the midpoint of u and v we add the two vectors and divide by two correct?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

tail = (u+v)/2 head = (u+u+v)/2 subtract the tail get the tail to 0 w = head - tail = u/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you help me visualize this?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

visualization is a crutch ...
