Anton bought a picnic cooler. His total bill, with tax, was $7.95. He paid 6 percent sales tax. How much did he pay for the cooler alone without the tax? Write and solve the arithmetic problem for each step. For the cost of the cooler, solve: ?% of cost of cooler = $7.95 To find the total bill in terms of the cost of the cooler :
\[\frac{7.95}{1.06} \]
@shadowdragon
soory, it didn't tag properly
its cool I am just making sure I don't give you the wrong answer
It says i cant reply to your message until you fan them first
And its cool, anytime of help would be greatly appreciated, literally
Okay so its my understanding that the tax is about 48 cents. So subtract 48 from 7.95
0.165625 is what i got
You did something wrong then answer should have been 7.47
whooopss, my bad, i divided
Cooler cost:\[\frac{7.95}{1.06}=7.5\]7.95-7.5 = 0.45 tax
where did you get 1.06 @robtobey ?
same, wondering the same thing
100% of the cost + 6% tax. 100% + 6% is 106% or 1.06 as a decimal number. You shift the decimal point two digits to the left when converting % to a decimal number.
@robtobey and @shadow
thank you!
