what is lumped circuit

OpenStudy (kenljw):

You can think of a lumped circuit as a macro veiw verses a micro veiw, in a macro veiw the subtle varitions in the micro veiw are averaged out. This mostly occurs in semiconductor devises, where parasitic resistances and capacitances are lumped together creating an element to represent them. When it comes to IC and PCB design a more micro veiw is required to simulate the circuit analysis because dimensions are much smaller.

If the dimensions of the circuit elements is comparable to the wave length of the signal that it processes. The element can be described mathematically as lumped circuit elements and if it not so then the parameters are called distributed circuit elements. Transmission I new are example if distributed element ckt as resistance, inductance and capacitance can not be seperable.
