first multply both sides by 4: -5*4=(8m+12)/4*4 -20=8m+12 subtarct 12 from both sides: -32=8m m=-4

multiply both sides by 4...-5 time 4 is -20. your left with -20=8m+12. Subtract both sides by 12 and you will get -32=8m. Then when you divide both sides by 8 you get m=-4
