can someone please help me in algebra 2?
question?
1. Which set of ordered pairs in the form of (x, y) does not represent a function of x? (1 point) {(0, 2), (1, –1), (2, 3), (3, –2)} {(0, –2), (1, 1), (2, 3), (3, –2)} {(0, 2), (–1, –1), (2, –3), (3, 2)} {(0, 2), (1, 2), (1, –2), (3, 2)}
Let's work together on this. Ok?
ok thanks
The definition of a function is a special relationship where each input has a single output.
wouldnt it be B then?
Anything that has the same x but with different y can not be a function.
D has 1 corresponding to both 2 and -2. Each x can only have one output.
For B there is no x value that has a different y value, so it can't be B
A{(0, 2), (1, –1), (2, 3), (3, –2)} B{(0, –2), (1, 1), (2, 3), (3, –2)} C{(0, 2), (–1, –1), (2, –3), (3, 2)} D{(0, 2), (1, 2), (1, –2), (3, 2)} Is this the letters?
yes
Ok. We know that B can not be the answer. In A, all of the x has unique y values, which is a function, so it can't be A, C also has unique y values for x. D is the only question that has an x value with two different y values.
Remember that y is dependent of x
So what do you think the answer must be?
it has to be D then. it makes sense. thanks. i appreciate it
No problem. I'm glad it makes sense to you! :)
is there any way u can help me with another one?
I have to go in a minute, I may be able to answer your question quickly
3. What is f(–3) if f(x) = |2x – 1| – 5? (1 point) 2 –12 0 –10
Substitute the -3 for x in the function.
|2(-3)-1|-5
B?
which becomes 7-5
GTG
sorry
woah..... i got -12
2*-3 is -6-1 -5
ok. thanks
