What are examples for 'too many variables'

OpenStudy (la0827):

Here's an example: Leah conducts an experiment to see if the usage of calculators during a test will speed up the time it takes to finish the test. She has two groups: one with calculators, and one without calculators. However, they all use different calculators. (This is an error - using different types of calculators can change the results. There are too many variables! To fix this error, the first group would have to use the same type of calculators.) Hope this helps! :)
