A wave travels through a medium and displaces the particles perpendicular to the direction in which the wave is traveling. This type of wave is a transverse wave because of the direction that the particles are being displaced as the wave travels. longitudinal wave because of the way the particles are displaced as the wave passes through. longitudinal wave because it moves forward through a medium causing the particles to vibrate. transverse wave because it is not traveling in a vacuum and the particles are moving.

Hello! You might have better luck with this question in the physics department, because it's not very related to computer science. As it is, check out this link: http://www.acs.psu.edu/drussell/Demos/waves/wavemotion.html So first find out which type of wave you have, and then see which reasoning helped you come to the conclusion. None of the answers have completely solid reasoning, but there is undoubtedly (in my mind) a best answer. If you still have questions, I suggest you go to the physics department! :) Good luck!
