There was a great depression in Europe in that time and the larger european countries saw Africa as a way out to make money. The Industrial revolution was happening in that time as well and goods from Africa were of utmost importance! Personal financial gain was important such as King Leopold ruled the Congo just for his own financial gain Rivalries played an important role too the French and Great Britain had hated each other for centuries and they were competing for more land in Africa. They also wanted to end the slave trade of the Muslims so they started introducing the 3 Cs in Africa. Commerce Christianity and Civilization
