Harry Potter is filled with deus ex machina, so without it, I don't think Voldemort would've been able to be defeated. Dumbledore would've died because of the ring, so he wouldn't have been able to hunt the rest of the horcruxes. Harry only lived and defeated Voldemort because of lucky events, so if Harry died, Voldemort would've taken over the world—literally.
