OpenStudy (imamermaid29):

Will fan & medal Which equation shows the substitution method being used to solve the system of linear equations? x + y = 6 x = y + 2 A. x = (x – 6) + 2 B. x + (y + 2) = 6 C. (y + 2) + y = 6 D. x + y = y + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay. So do you know the difference between the substitution method and elimination?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Substitution is where you have to either find x and y... then plug in one of those in the other equation...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So... we already know x because it says \[x = y + 2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right?

OpenStudy (imamermaid29):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So now we have to plug in x into the other equation... when we do we would get: \[(y + 2) + y = 6\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So... what is the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just gave you the answer by the way...

OpenStudy (imamermaid29):

c.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Great job!

OpenStudy (imamermaid29):

thank you :)

Hope this helped! Have a great day! @ImaMermaid29
