Write the ratios for sin X and cos X [Photo Inside]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

sine = opposite side/ hypotenuse cosine = adjacent / hypotenuse

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

We are considering angle X. What side length is opposite to angle X?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

What "side length" is opposite to the angle X

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

|dw:1447823045580:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cosine is: Opposite over Hypotenuse. The side opposite X is sqrt 119. The hypotenuse is 12. That makes: sqrt 119/12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

119sqrt is the side length opposite to X

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

Cosine is NOT Opposite over Hypotenuse cosine is adjacent over hypotenuse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UnkleRhaukus just keep helping don't mind him if he's giving false information

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I am really sorry. Sine is opposite/hypotenuse...I did not mean to confuse you. I am trying to remember this off the top of my head.

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

What is the length of the hypotenuse ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

so sin X = opp / hypo = √119 / 12

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

cos X = adj/hypo =

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sine= Opposite/Hypotenuse= (square root of 119)/12 Cosine=Adjacent/Hypotenuse=5/12 I am truly sorry for messing up. In order to cause less confusion, I won't try to explain it. UnkleRhaukus is doing a good job of that. I just wanted you guys to know that I was able to get the right answer. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks for all of you guy's help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ags2658 I know you were capable, I just said that because UnkleRhaukus had already started helping but I appreciate your help as well :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand. You're welcome! ^_^ I hope can be of more help later.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Apologies on my grammar mistake. I meant to type: I hope I can be of more help later.
