What was the result of the Three-Fifths Compromise

OpenStudy (kat_s123):

Do you know what it is?

noo

OpenStudy (kat_s123):

Mmkay, so basically the north and the south were debating how slaves would be counted like population wise. And they were fighting about it because if they counted the slaves as people then the state would get more seats for the house of reps. So they gave the southern states 1/3 more seats in congress and 1/3 more electoral votes, which was more than if they didn't count the slaves as part of the population. Unfortunately, this let the people that "owned" the slaves to control a large part of the government

And it allowed the slave owners to do that because people of color, at the time, could not vote. So basically they were getting more seats when a lot of the people that were counted as the population from those states couldn't vote. And this gave them a big advantage at getting what they wanted.
