HELP! I HAVE 20 MIN TO FINISH MY WORKSHEET! The equation sinx = sqrt2/2 is an identity. True or False? I say false....anyone know if i'm right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

WILL FAN AND MEDAL!

OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):

what does it mean by identity?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In trig...it wants to know if its a Trigonometric Identity.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

whether or not it can be proven true

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and i dont know how to prove it true or false :(

OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):

well dunno if this helps but sqrt of 2 is 1.41421356237

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know either....it's multiple choice between true and false...ugh! Pre-calc sucks!!

OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):

its false

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you know?

OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):

2 = 2 is an identity since it's always true x = x is also an identity (domain: All real numbers) tan(x) = tan(x) is an identity (domain: all real numbers but x can't equal multiples of pi/2)

OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):

it's only true for specific x values but not all x values it needs to be a true equation for every value in the domain for it to be an identity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

k...well i chose false...so when im done...i will let you kow what i get...if it is right i will fan and medal :) thx

OpenStudy (hijacktrolo):

np :D
