think of this as -4-6, which equals -10. then slap the y back on it, since they are like terms. It doesn't appear as if you have to be solving for anything here

factor out the y -4y - 6y = y(-4-6) = (-4-6)y What is -4 - 6 = ? Hint: We can factor out -1 from -4-6, and get: -1(4+6) :)
