Is this right? Drey makes $10 an hour plus $15 an hour for every hour of overtime. Overtime hours are any hours more than 40 hours for the week.

Drey makes $10 an hour plus $15 an hour for every hour of overtime. Overtime hours are any hours more than 40 hours for the week. Part A: Create an equation that shows the amount of wages earned, W, for working x hours in a week when there is no overtime. (3 points) Part B: Create an equation that shows the amount of wages earned, S, for working y hours of overtime. Hint: Remember to include in the equation the amount earned from working 40 hours. (3 points) Part C: Drey earned $490 in 1 week. How many hours (regular plus overtime) did he work? (4 points)

Whatcha got so far? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Part A: W=$10x Part B: S=$15x $400 Part C: Part C I am stuck. @johnweldon1993

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

A) Good B) You forgot to put the '+' sign...but good C) We use the formula from part B you make \[\large 15x + 400 = 490\] Since we know we only makes MAX 400 by working just 40 hours a week...we know he worked SOME overtime on top of that 400...solve for 'x'

would 6 be right? for part C? @johnweldon1993

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

Well 6 is the number of hours he worked in overtime!! But in total he worked that on top of the 40 hours he normally does right? So 40 + 6 = ? :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

46 would be the answer. @johnweldon1993 Thank you for you help!!

OpenStudy (johnweldon1993):

No problem :)
