I also think that it's B. However, I'm not quite sure. My real reason is to show mockery.
Do you have an explanation why you chose B?
Well, I think it saying basically that everyone says that Shakespere's plays are amazing, or 'great' so he's wondering if the word 'great' is actually accurate ( I, personally, think they are amazing works of playwriting).
