Will medal !! Ellen works for a high-speed rail company that wants to develop a new rail line. Ellen’s project is to find a train that is the second fastest in the world. The Shinkansen Bullet Train in Japan is reported to go as fast as 320 kilometers per hour. The TGV train in France can reach speeds of 89.44 meters per second. Explain to Ellen how to find what speed her new train must go to be the second fastest in this group. Then, find an appropriate speed for Ellen’s train in miles per hour and use the formula distance = speed • time to find how far the train can go in 2.5 hours. Use complete sentences

OpenStudy (bruhobamacare):

First you need to convert the two given speeds into the same units. Let's change meters per second to kilometers per hour to make the last question easier. 89.44 m/sec * (1 km/1000 m) * (60 sec/1 min)* (60 min/1 hour) = 321.98 kilometers per hour. That means that in order to be second fastest, her train must travel between 321.98 km/hr and 320 km/hr. Pick some number in the middle - say 321 km/hr. Now multiply that by 2.5 hours to get the distance in kilometers the train can travel in 2.5 hours..so Ellen's train must go between 88.89 m/s and 89.44 m/s
