In "The Call of the Wild" pikes insubordination in shirking his duties precipitated discipline from Spitz. What does that mean?

I looked this answer up because I've never read that book or story or whatever it is. I found this on quizlet, "Pike disobeyed by refusing to wake up and caused Spitz to punish him."
Insubordination is not following the rules and the authority structure. Shirking your duties means you have ignored them and not completed them. Precipitating discipline means pike's actions have caused spitz to punish him.
